They received many positive comments about their new music from friends and strangers via YouTube, so they decided in October 2008 to record the tracks in a studio. They emerged with 14 pristine new and original tracks recorded, mixed and mastered by producer, Paulo Brandão, at his studio in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro.
Special artwork was commissioned from artist Leah Wilks and the CD was finally released in September 2009. In the meantime, Rice ‘n’ Beans had already started playing gigs around Rio. Their all acoustic set with steel-string guitars, blues harp and dual vocals, coupled with a variety of rhythms and moods to their songs gives their music an authentic and original sound.
Their music is influenced by such artists as Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson and The Beatles and they also listen to a lot of Brazilian music. Their acoustic version of Mensagem De Amor by Os Paralamas do Sucesso is a firm favourite with their YouTube viewers.
Rice ‘n’ Beans were formed by Mark Archer and Peter Napthine in Rio de Janeiro during August 2007. Their initial sessions involved playing a few cover versions of their favourite songs. They soon realised, however, that it would be much more enjoyable to write and record their own songs.
Peter had a back-log of recent songs and Mark brought a few new compositions into the mix and they also wrote some new ones together and, over a period of a year, practiced and recorded the songs for uploading onto YouTube.
